Power scheme back on
The Queen is supporting a revised scheme to provide power to Windsor Castle via a hydroelectric power plant on the river Thames. The new plans will provide more power, whilst also being cheaper. Another important advantage is that it will allow fish to continue to swim through the river, unlike many hydroelectric projects which stop fish from travelling through the dam.
Windsor Castle is the largest occupied castle and the world, and as such uses a substantial amount of power. The revised scheme, whilst more powerful, will still only provide one third of the castle’s power usage.
